Rookies Around 450 babies, children and adults drown in the UK each year – one every 20 hours! Just because your child can swim, don’t assume he/she is completely safe in the water. Would they know what to do if they fell into a river with a bed of reeds? Do they know how to conserve their body heat? Would their natural instinct be to swim to somebody else in trouble? The Royal Life Saving Society UK has devised a scheme for our young swimmers, not only to help them stay safe in the water but also to help them recognize other people in trouble and to know the best way to help that person. There are RLSS awards for your child to work through: Your child will learn different entries into the water, different exits, survival skills ie removal of clothing whilst in the water, swimming in clothes, defensive actions, how to throw an aid, how to reach and rescue, how to swim with aids, lifesaving backstroke, sidestroke, hand signals, how to tow, how to turn and support an unconscious casualty – the list is endless! They will also do first aid qualifications and this element of the awards will be led by local paramedics. Time & Place 10.15am-11am, starting on Sunday 27th April 2008 at Plymouth College Cost To book please contact us by phone or email Email: jacqi@swimcats.co.uk or madeline@swimcats.co.uk
